Holocaust Memorial Day 2026

28th January 2026

On 27 January 2026, Kushti Bok Dorset marked Holocaust Remembrance Day, joining communities across Dorset to remember the millions of people who were persecuted and murdered during the Holocaust and in later genocides. This includes the Roma and Sinti people, whose suffering and loss have too often been overlooked in history.

Five Kushti Bok ambassadors attended the Holocaust Remembrance Day event at Dorchester Corn Exchange, standing in remembrance and solidarity. The event provided space to reflect, to listen, and to remember those whose lives were taken, while also reminding us why it is so important to challenge hatred, racism and discrimination in all its forms today.

Earlier that week, on Sunday 25 January 2026, members of Kushti Bok also attended a commemorative event at the Lighthouse in Poole. Those present included our current Chair, Betty Billington-Smith BEM who is also a member of the Bournemouth and Poole Holocaust Committee, alongside our future Chair Tina Boswell, and well-respected Kushti Bok members Bryan and Maggie Keet.

For Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, Holocaust Remembrance Day holds deep meaning. Remembering is about honouring our ancestors, keeping their stories alive, and making sure future generations understand what happened and why it must never happen again.

We are proud of everyone who attended and represented our community with dignity and respect. We remember together, and we stand together.
