Under the bright sunshine and with a warm welcome, we arrived at The Green Gathering, ready to share the rich history and culture of the Romany people. Our designated spot in the children's area quickly became a hub of creativity and connection, as we engaged with festival-goers of all ages. Through a variety of visual media and hands-on crafts, including the creation of Romany flowers and heather posies, we were able to bring Romany heritage to life, sparking interest and conversation among children and adults alike.

The Green Gathering is a vibrant event that draws individuals passionate about sustainability, ancient traditions, and green living. From off-grid communities to those practicing age-old crafts like weaving, carving, and blacksmithing, the festival offered an eclectic mix of expertise. Among the diverse offerings were skilled carpenters, herbalists, tanners, and other artisans, making it an ideal space to showcase Romany traditions.

Throughout the festival, we displayed informative media that provided a deep dive into Romany culture and history. Many visitors, particularly adults, were keen to learn more, with some exploring the possibility of tracing their own Romany roots. Others were simply interested in discovering more about the ancient traditions and lifestyles of the Romany people. It was a rewarding experience to offer resources and guidance, helping individuals on their journey of understanding.

The festival’s children’s area was a constant hub of activity, with a steady stream of young visitors eager to engage in crafting activities. From creating crepe paper roses and beaded jewelry to fashioning their own heather posies, the children were not only enthusiastic but often returned for more. Many of them were accompanied by their parents, who eagerly joined in the fun. The vibrant atmosphere was further enhanced by the opportunity for children to color in a large welcome sign and play with an array of musical instruments.

In addition to the joy and creativity shared at our station, we formed valuable new friendships and connections. These interactions fostered a greater understanding of Romany heritage and the challenges facing travelling communities today. Some of these connections have already opened new opportunities for us to spread Kushti Bok's mission, and we look forward to participating in more festivals in the upcoming year.

This enriching experience highlighted the power of festivals like The Green Gathering to bring together diverse communities, celebrate cultural heritage, and promote meaningful dialogue. We are excited for the future and the opportunities to share our vision with even more people.
